Golly I am sick right now.  I collapsed at uni on Friday so my 'don't tell anyone you are sick and maybe you won't notice it either' plan didn't go so well.  Such terrible timing considering my show opens THIS THURSDAY!

A few days ago, I had the surreal experience of having a photographer apologise for me in advance because she would be shooting on film and so would not process the images instantly.
Model of the world, I bite my thumb at you!  That photographers are getting pushed to the point where they think they have to apologise for this, I find embarrassing.

Models, back off a little!  Photographers are allowed to take their time!  Particularly when shooting on film but however they work, artists need time to process, edit and sit on their work.  Everyone works at different paces and, to best create their art, they need to be given space.

I have worked with some artists who have emailed me images by the time I get home from the shoot and others who slowly release over many months.  So be it!  The images are worth the wait.  I tend to go into shoots with new photographers expecting nothing so I am pleasantly surprised when photos arrive.

As a photographer, I avoid shooting with Models.  The last time I did, she was so exceptionally rude and ungrateful and just handled herself so, so poorly: she continually asked me when they would be ready, when I sent one lot she wrote to me asking why I hadn't sent her more yet.  Photographers put up with this sort of behaviour All.  The.  Time.  Seriously.

So, give them a break, models.  The biggest compliment you can recieve is if the photographer is excited enough about the images to race through their post-production.   Don't expect it but it is a thrill when it happens.  If they take 10 months without explaning to you that this will probably happen due to their method of post-production (~DalaiHarma and ~mrgone do this) then you should probably presume that the photos aren't that good anyway.   So be nice, be professional and be patient.  Photographers should not have apologise for not instantly processing images.  You are there to faciliate their art and your own and not to make them feel guilty and miserable about the process.

Today's random Halohid fact:

Halohid is so scared of spiders that some days she cannot cope with driving with the windows down for fear of them crawling into the car.

If you lived in Britain, I'd laugh at you. Seeing as you live in Australia with its legendary eight legged nastiness though...well I don't blame you. I mean, shit, if I lived somewhere where there was a critter called a 'dunny spider' I would be scared too! :P

Haha, I am actually more scared of a big harmless but fluffy variety than the poison ones. The amount of times I've had people say to me 'you know, they can't hurt you'. It is called a phobia because it is an irrational fear! Incidentally, Australia is also famous for its poison snakes and I have no fear of them. I used to work for the zoo and once found myself in a taipan nest whilst tracking wallabies and wasn't overly distress.

I think it depends*- if you're shooting with a photographer in return for images then it's a bit unfair of them to take more than a month or 2 to give you the pics. The model gives up thier time too!

Maybe it also depends why you are shooting. If you are shooting in return for images for your portfolio then you need them to be pretty up to date otherwise they are no use to you, but if you are shooting just for the love of creating cool images then you can afford to wait.

*(unless they have told you beforehand that it will take a while for images) , in which case I agree models should be more patient

Very good points! I guess it does always depend on what was agreed on prior to the shoot. If it is a paid shoot, I work on the assumption that they can do whatever they want with the images and it is just a bonus if some get back to me.

This said, I tend to just be happy with whatever suits the photographer on TF* work also. This may have come out of most of the TF* shoots I do being for students or friends and I know how busy these people are. I get rather protective of these artists, hence the response when one apologised in advance for shooting on film. Add to this that I was sick and probably not as eloquent as usually and you get a rather angsty post. :)

Thankyou very much for your input!

I recently worked with a model who wanted images the next day - it wasn't a must, just a request but I definitely felt the pressure. I want to please my models so I obliged, and I'm a fast processer anyway, but I thought it was a bit unprofessional.

Most of my models are happy with whenever the photos turn up though, which is good :)

Hope you're feeling a little better soon, everyone I know is falling sick so I hope I don't succumb *crosses fingers*

I prefer to use actors and dancers, who tend to understand more about movement and viewing bodies.

I have a couple of favourite models at school - one is an exquisite dancer, who has such control over her body that she can put herself in a position for ages and even return to that exact position after a lunch break. She really understands her body.

One time in drawing class, the model, a beautiful young girl who sometimes reads while she poses for us, was lying in one position for about 30 minutes when she just fell asleep, and stayed there. It was the most gorgeous thing.

Dancers are just incredible to shoot! I 100% agree! I should do some life modeling, one day. It pays better than photographers.
