Six seconds from now...

A Melbourne Romance

Actors: Finn and Chris

Photographer: Your host

I have had this image in my head for a long time - since I broke up with my last boyfriend actually - but never found the right people at the right time to make it. Finally a couple of days ago I set myself a dead line: I had to make it before I left for SA on Monday. I hadn't decided who to use, what gender they should be or even if I wanted to be one of the models or just shoot it. I went on to facebook, just looked at my homepage and saw a message from one of these lads, remembered what a beautiful couple they were and emailed them. A day later, we shot this. Organisation wins.

There is something very special about shooting people who are a couple in real life. These two have been together a year and everytime I stopped to focus they would do something very sweet which I couldn't catch thanks to my 6 or 8 second exposure. Thankyou, lads! And thank you for 'breaking up' for my art. I felt a bit guilty for making them do that.

Oh and there was another shoot going on about 10 meters from us: two boys doing skate board photos. They had brought their own hip hop music and everything. I was a bit anxious. They eventually stopped shooting, watched us for a bit and then wandered off. Good times.

Thanks. This one was six seconds exposure. Four seconds embracing and two seconds in the second pose. I can't remember the aperture but it was probably around 5. That is what I usually shoot on in that sort of shoot. The lense is 55mm. It is my favourite. :D

Oh, the 4 sec × 2 sec was a nice choice. I'm just a beginner, so I was wondering how did you do it, but now it seems quite clear : )

It involves me going. 'Okay... pressing shutter... NOW! and hold it, hold, it, hold it, SHIFT! hold it aaaaand DONE! You can breathe.' :D You need a tripod and some very patient models.
